 Because the Slabsmith's™ calibration is not camera specific, you may use virtually any digital camera, however we recommend the reasonably priced but good quality Canon Rebel series of digital cameras.
The Canon cameras are provided with software which allows you to control them from from a computer. This eliminates the need to touch the camera to retrieve pictures and removes the potential to accidentally change a setting or the position of the camera, both of which could affect the calibration.
The basic recommendations for a digital camera are:
- Digital SLR (single lens reflex, not a point and shoot)
- 8+ megapixel
- 18mm-55mm zoom lens
Camera
- Virtually any of the current Rebel models.
Accessories:
- Canon ACK-DC20 AC Adapter
- A nearby computer connected to your network to control the camera and save the pictures
- A USB cable to connect the camera to the computer
Accessories ( if not controlling the camera from a computer. )
- Canon Remote Switch RS60 E3
- ( prevents directly touching -and moving- the camera when taking a picture. )
- Extension cables for the remote switch. Radio Shack part numbers.
