Lighting

The purpose of a flash unit is to create a consistent light on the slab. This is accomplished by overpowering the ambient light in the area of the photo station.

We recommend 4 flashes to provide a consistent light and reduce the shadows on all edges of the slab.

The Alien Bee units have proven to be extremely robust and will stand up to harsh environments as good or better then any similar flash unit that we have seen.

You can purchase stands from Alien Bee, but it's preferable create a permanent mount, or a quick placement mount in your photo station area.

The Alien Bee flashes will tighten directly onto any 5/8" or smaller post or bolt, but the mounting brackets available from Alien Bee are recommended. The brackets clamp to any 1" pipe and provide easy, and full adjustment of the flash units.

If you would like a little more flexibility on lighting placement, you can diffuse the light source using an umbrella that attaches to the flash unit.
